Gratitude

May my lips overflow with praise,
for you teach me your decrees.
May my tongue sing of your word,
for all your commands are righteous.
Psalm 119:171-172

If you want to know what a person really holds in his heart and what his true priorities are, ask him why he is grateful to God. If this person focuses on God and His Word, he will respond immediately to you and will mention the many things for which his heart overflows with gratitude. If he takes a bit to answer it may be for two reasons, one is that it has so many things for which to be full of gratitude that he needs a couple of seconds to rank them in order of importance from highest to lowest before stating them. The other possibility is that this person has never stopped to consider the many blessings God has granted him or simply he does not know who is the author of all things good and apparently bad that are part of his life.

Never forget that everything, absolutely everything we are, have and do we owe to our heavenly Father who gave us life, forgiveness of sins and salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. Consider the long list of daily blessings and benefits that our Father has bestowed upon us, which makes us the most privileged beings in the universe. Until we are totally clear about these things we will not know what it means to praise God. If you’ve never sat down to consider what God has given you, begin by investigating where your life comes from and who allows your heart to beat and lets you breathe. Soon you will realize that every aspect of your life, as insignificant as it may seem, you owe it to God. To him who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life give all thanks. To God alone be the glory!
