Today’s word for June 6, 2011

Because they have no regard for the deeds of the LORD
and what his hands have done,
he will tear them down
and never build them up again.
Psalm 28:5

Some people have taken the decision to live their lives as if God did not exist. They think that any reference to God or his work is mere fable and mythology. In their eagerness to discredit religions and their practitioners they throw all beliefs, false and true, in one bag and they put a label of superstition to all of them. While it is true that many religions are based on folklore and superstition, not less certain is the general and constant search for man, regardless of race, tribe or nation, to find something transcendental in his life. This relentless pursuit has led many to create fantastic models that attempt to explain the purpose of our life and the relationship between the visible and invisible. The diversity of experiences has led man has set numerous and conflicting ways of getting to the presence of this superior being who their conscience instinctively tells them is above all things. Their paths to reach God are based on personal effort to try to soar above human misery and mediocrity. Despite these limitations, the almost total acceptance that there is something more than what we see, is proof that we were created to maintain a relationship with God and that there is another level of existence different to that we all know.

People who practice false religions are trying to reach God, who by definition can not be reached. Those who do not want to be subject to a higher power, moral standard and absolute authority reject any idea of God. The Bible teaches us that it was God who took the initiative to come to man to reconcile man with himself, his Creator and to destroy the spiritual and physical barrier which sin has risen between God and his greatest creation. Those who practice false religions are much closer to having a personal encounter with God that those who deny his existence altogether. How sad it must be the life of one who thinks that life is just the time we live on earth and after this there is nothing more! May the Holy Spirit of God remove the veil that prevents these confused people from realizing the glorious reality of God and from trusting in Jesus Christ. To God alone be the glory!
