Today’s word for August 3, 2011

When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
for the LORD will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.
Proverbs 3:24-26

When we really put all our trust in God and have accepted to live as he expects us we receive the immediate reward of enjoying a peaceful sleep. This is something that should not be taken lightly because according to studies conducted in 2002 by the National Sleep Foundation, 58% of U.S. adults have experienced symptoms of insomnia a few times a week or more. Among the causes or factors that influence the problem of getting to and maintaining sleep are depression and stress. When we depend on God and understand that all our anxieties can be brought to his throne of grace for him to take care of them, both the pressure and uncertainty diminish, allowing us to enjoy a sweet dream. But we live busy lives and usually we lean on our own forces that are actually rather weak. The result of all this is poor quality of sleep.

With the tranquility that gives us to know that we have someone who never will let us down and who can be trusted at all times and under all circumstances, the anxiety that normally keeps us agitated and restless is mitigated. If you have problems to get to sleep, remember we must place all our anxiety on Jesus because He cares for us. Nobody can give us the peace that only he can give, the peace that the world does not know or will know until it places itself under the cover of God. Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep? Lean on the promises of the Lord Jesus and you’ll soon be sleeping like a log, or as they say now, like a walrus.To God alone be the glory!
