Firm covenant

I will maintain my love to him forever,
and my covenant with him will never fail.
I will establish his line forever,
his throne as long as the heavens endure.
Psalm 89:28-29

In reality, only God can give us strong and immovable guarantees when he establishes a covenant with us, his children, his ultimate creation. Given our weak sinful nature, we can make great efforts to comply with the terms of the pact but it is most likely that we will end up breaking one or more of the clauses of the agreement. This is because our carnal nature makes us put our trust in our own strength, which is not much of a warranty by itself, rather than on God’s strength who is the only one who can transform our minds to enable us to be better adhered to the covenant.

Moreover, the fact remains that God can not deny himself. His promises are firm because he would cease to be God if he were to break them. And to put the stamp of quality and absolute guarantee on top of the deal, we have that God’s love is constant. God’s love never fails, the love of God does not change. The love of God, amply demonstrated by the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Mount Calvary, will always be present to make all things work for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose . Given these strong assurance that God will fulfill his part of the deal, let’s support ourselves on his strength to meet our part of the deal: to do justice, to show mercy and to be humble. In other words, to love our neighbor as ourselves. To God alone be the glory!
