Theories

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
and they will be discarded.
Psalms 102:25-26

Occasionally I pause to watch TV programs that talk about our planet and its origins. This week I saw one where a young scientist was speaking of a new theory that proposed that life on Earth started very shortly after its formation as a planet. I was struck by this proposal coming from an atheist scientist because that is precisely what the word of God teaches and albeit not properly being a scientific book, it describes some of the events surrounding the creation of the universe and Earth in particular. The Bible teaches that life was created on the same day that the earth was created, even on the third day! [1] On a previous occasion I mentioned that scientists are very careful when selecting the words they use to describe events that can only occur in their feverish imagination. Because they have no way to scientifically prove anything, everything is described with hypothetical terms from which they can easily escape when a new theory arrives that the rest of the scientific community considers to be more plausible than the previous and now discarded proposed explanation. Those who accuse Christians of following mythological tales are the very same ones who are creating new myths and new mythologies in which they put all their trust and for which they do much proselytizing. Not surprisingly, these “scientific” TV programs  are accompanied by others that speak of the prophecies of Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar and the end of the world in 2012. Virtually the same level of speculation that is required and is used to treat the issue of the origins of the earth is the level necessary to discuss the theme of the destruction and the end of the world.

Now, we are receiving not only a hope, but a better hope, through which we draw near to God. [2] Do not worry about the speculations that in the name of science many dare to use to discredit those of us who have put our hope in God the Creator. In due time, God will show his majesty and power to every human being and then every knee shall bow and every tongue shall acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [3] Only to God be the glory!
