Cruel indifference

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act.
Do not say to your neighbor,
“Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—
when you already have it with you.
Proverbs 3:27-28

Selfishness, laziness and indifference, three things that are so characteristic of human nature, are the main contenders of love for the spaces of the heart. To all of us, to a lesser or greater degree, has happened that having the answer to the needs of someone who comes to us for help, we consider the matter as being of little importance and cease to provide the assistance that we should have dutyfully given. By doing this we are completely ignoring the teachings of Jesus in this regard. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you” told us the Master and I am sure that none of us would like that when we were to ask someone for help we were denied it. [1] The Lord Jesus was very emphatic with regard to the help we must always be willing to provide: “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” [2]

I think the issue has been clear enough for us. To ignorantly or recklessly  avoid providing assistance when someone requests it is a sin. Look for opportunities to serve others because that way we serve our Lord and Savior. To God alone be the glory!
