Integrity saves

The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit.
Proverbs 28:18

Integrity is one of the most important things to preserve a good relationship with God. Of it depends that our daily walk brings us closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. However, in this postmodern world in which we live, as everything is relative, integrity is not paid much attention and people act according to the circumstances and depending on what their emotions dictate. In many cases this is the reason why some children of God have failed to overcome spiritual infancy. This people never take God seriously and live as if life were only rights and no duties, ie like spoiled little children. When they stumble and fall into a pit from which they can not escape on their own, they break into tears and cry out to the heavenly Father to pull them out of the trap without realizing that it was their own actions and decisions that led them to this sorry state in the first place.

People who act with integrity and transparency walk along a path illuminated by the presence of the Lord Jesus, which lets them avoid all the obstacles that normally stand in their daily travel. The word of God is a lamp unto their feet to help them see clearly where to place their steps to avoid falling. He who does not produce garbage is cleaner than he who cleans a lot. The less problems we get ourselves into the less pressured by the enemy and the world our life will be. Always act with integrity and things will go better. To God alone be the glory!

Audacity

For I am about to fall,
and my pain is ever with me.
I confess my iniquity;
I am troubled by my sin.
Psalms 38:17-18

It often surprises me the boldness with which some ─I include myself in this group ─ if not most of us come before God without confessing our sins and without having asked for forgiveness. We present ourselves as if nothing had happened, as innocent lambs, when in fact our sinful nature has been responsible of violating the precepts that God has given us to live a holy life. Sometimes God has to put us in extreme situations so we can realize our sinfulness and of course, this results in something that is not very nice to us. God loves us and as our Father he disciplines us so we may learn to be people full of integrity and moral authority.

Let us constantly review our lives and identify those areas in which we are failing. Let’s take our weaknesses to the throne of grace of God and let us act in a way our repentance shows. In this way we will be rid of the heavy burden of guilt and avoid the anguish that tries to dominate us. As an additional benefit in some cases we will receive health and in others we will find the solution to those problems that seemed to have no way out. Let us not miss the plank that is hosted in our eye and makes it difficult for us to see. May God speak to us and tell us where we are not behaving up to standard. He will respond with tenderness and love and show us the way for us to follow. To God alone be the glory!

Gimmicks

Whoever leads the upright along an evil path
will fall into their own trap,
but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.
Proverbs 28:10

One of the most common entertainments of the wicked is to mislead the unwary and foolish from the straight path and have them imitate their wrongdoing. They use all kinds of tricks and traps to induce the naive to do the bad things they’ve been doing and for which they feel proud. Of course they use all kinds of lies and when they succeed in their mission to divert the unwary from the right path, instead of celebrating they make fun of him and make a mockery by accusing him of stupid. The only way they can achieve their purpose is through trickery and that is why we must never go distracted.

In any case, these wicked fellows shall fall into the traps that they have tended at the foot of the inexperienced to take them down. Their lies and tricks will be turned against them in the same way that a boomerang returns to the hands of the one who threw it. From this retribution they will not be able to escape because it is a principle established by God to punish the wicked who manage to confound the unwary. Let us always be alert to the wiles of the enemy. He will always be looking for our downfall and will take advantage of any unguarded moment to attack us with his arsenal of tricks and pranks. I we are aware of his traps we will not be snared by them. Our heavenly Father will give us the discernment and wisdom needed to stay in the center of the right track. To God alone be the glory!

Reciprocity

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it;
if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.
Proverbs 26:27

In the same way that nobody can escape the rule of the law of gravity, no person may withdraw from the law of reciprocity. With similar words King David reaffirmed the universal principle of reciprocity: “Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment. Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made. The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads.” [1] Given the prevailing selfishness in humans, it should be reason enough to avoid by all means possible to make any kind of evil, however small , to our neighbor. Knowing that the evil act will come back on us should deter us from causing harm to those around us so we can, this way, protect us from evil. And this is something that works as well for good actions. The good you do to others, God returns it to us as a blessing. Therefore the Lord Jesus spoke clearly when he said: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” [2]

Let us consider  our actions at all times. Let us find out what are the chances that what we are doing or have decided to do might cause damage or harm to others. Remember the warning of James, the brother of the Lord: “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” [3] This is the correct ethical position. This is how we should behave always, following the teachings of Jesus and the exhortations of the apostle Paul: “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” [4] Only to God be the glory!

War

I pursued my enemies and overtook them;
I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
I crushed them so that they could not rise;
they fell beneath my feet.
Psalm 18:37-38

The children of God are always involved in a very special battle. Unlike the wars that we hear about every day in various parts of this wide world, Christians do not have to fight with other human beings. The struggle of the Christians is against the passions that war within themselves. James, the brother of the Lord Jesus described it this way: “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” [1] He also says: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” [2] The apostle Paul puts it this way: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” [3]

Our enemies are not our fellow believers, not even those who do not believe in God or who believe in false gods. Our enemies are within our own being and also in the spiritual realm. The hardest part of dealing with this situation trying not to make it personal against those who adverse and harass us. They are not who should be the object of our attacks or those against who must make a defense. Behind each of these people there are a lot of spiritual beings of various ranks organized to do battle against us. If we do not know who our enemy really is on the battlefield how can we point our guns against the troops that oppose us? So let us humble ourselves before the Lord and he will exalt us and grant us victory over our real enemies. To God alone be the glory!

Today’s word for July 2, 2011

His victims are crushed, they collapse;
they fall under his strength.
He says to himself, “God will never notice;
he covers his face and never sees.”
Psalm 10:10-11

The powerful and the evil have deceived themselves into believing that they are not under the authority of God and therefore they can act with impunity. This self-deception gives them a false sense of security that encourages them to continue to do as they will without paying attention to the terrible consequences that their reprehensible behavior is going to bring over their heads. The only way they know is the way of violence and abuse of power. Their joy and satisfaction lie in humiliating, bend and dominate their neighbors as often as possible. The more successful they are in their campaign to dominate others the closest they get to the trap that will catch them like the innocent critters. A false sense of security prevents them from seeing the sad future that lies ahead. Their arrogance gives them the encouragement they need to persecute the helpless, convinced that God does not exist and if he does, he does not see, he has forgotten his creation or he does not care what happens to this world.

The reality is quite the opposite. God is fully aware of all the persecution and abuse that these wicked followers and instruments of Satan have carried out with much pleasure on the innocent and the oppressed. The judgment of God does not tarry, although the fact that God sees time differently than we do makes us think that he ignores our suffering or he has forgotten us. Our faith must withstand the weight of oppression. Our hope is that sooner than later God will wipe away every tear from our eyes and will bring back the peace and joy we are entitled to as children of God. Do not let the enemy steal from you the joy of knowing that you are fully protected by the mighty arm of God. Remember that the Lord sees the trouble of the afflicted; considers their grief and takes it in hand. To God alone be the glory!

Today’s word for June 22, 2011

So he swore to them with uplifted hand
that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
make their descendants fall among the nations
and scatter them throughout the lands.
Psalms 106:26-27

One of the most striking examples of disobedience and ingratitude that I am aware of is the attitude shown by the people of Israel after they escaped, with the help and protection of God, from the slavery Pharaoh imposed on them. Once the painful burden of the activity required to make the huge amount of bricks needed to meet the aggressive construction plans of the king was removed from their shoulders, they were not able to understand or handle the freedom that God had provided. After four centuries of servitude, the transition to liberty was too hard to assimilate and they were struck by confusion. The consequences were severe. All that generation that left Egypt was buried in the wilderness and none of them managed to set foot on the land God had promised, and not because God had broken his promise, but because of their disobedience and contempt for God’s instructions, attitude that brought disgrace to their lives. Today we see many who behave in the same way these unfortunates did when they rejected God’s blessings.

Are you wishing to return to the state where you were before knowing the Lord Jesus? Is your life full of ingratitude and complaints against him who has given you everything you are, you do and you have? Have you raised dumb idols to honor and devote all your attention to them? ¿Do you underestimate the wonderful plan God has prepared for you? Do you complain constantly about everything and for nothing? We must be careful not to become obstacles to the fulfillment of God’s plan. If we stand in the path of God’s purposes we will be hit with the force of a heavy locomotive at full speed. Let us be grateful and obedient to God all the time and in every occasion. This attitude will be of great benefit to us, both materially and spiritually. To God alone be the glory!

Today’s word 3-2-2011

like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;
he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
His victims are crushed, they collapse;
they fall under his strength.
He says to himself, “God will never notice;
he covers his face and never sees.”
Psalms 10:9-11

There is a group of people who do not rule out completely that God exists, rather, they do not rule out the possibility that God exists. They believe that since it can not be proven by the scientific method that God exists, it can neither be proven that God does not exist and therefore, they rather live in doubt. They never end up deciding if they are atheists or theists. These people swim between two waters and never assume either position. In fact, they rather wait until the last moment of their lives to make a decision, unfortunately, when it will be too late. Sometimes they say: “It is possible that God exists, but how I can know for sure?” This kind of attitude and skepticism regarding the existence of God fits very well with the postmodern thought that has been promoted with much success in these current times of globalization. For them, what God has revealed through His prophets, His written Word and his Living Word has no validity.

To assume this middle of the road position carries a high risk of failing to receive the forgiveness of God for salvation. They are putting their eternal state in danger and might never leave the state of condemnation in which they live. We must act with great compassion toward these people and pray to the Father for opportunities for us to present the testimony of the gospel to them. Remember, the Holy Spirit is responsible for their conversion. Let us take into account that the people we deal with daily have different points of view and if it is not through us, how would they know that they need to invoke the name of the Lord to be saved? Here’s an interesting challenge for today. Act according to what the Holy Spirit tells you and fulfill the work that has been entrusted to you. To God alone be the glory!
