Paths

Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
who have left the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
Proverbs 2:12-13

Some trails are wide and spacious and some are narrow and difficult. Some trails are flat and some are very steep. There are straight roads and also extremely tortuous roads. Some paths are full of shadows and others are clear and illuminated. There are dry roads and muddy paths. There are slippery trails and there are also firm trails. There are flat roads and rough roads. There are trails that lead us to the heights and paths that can lead us straight into the abyss. There are trails that are perennial and there are others that eventually disappear. Finally, there are many kinds of ways that most of us have travelled, must travel or will travel throughout our lives. So,what makes the traveler progress and feel serene regardless of the different circumstances of the terrain? And why many, though they have to move through paths full of obstacles and difficulties, feel safe and confident that the road, be it harsh or pleasant, will lead them to a  good destination?

The difference, my dear friend, is who accompanies him on his journey. Who have you looked for to help you move smoothly, regardless of the vicissitudes of life? There is only one partner who can guarantee peace and joy and progress towards the ultimate and safe destination and he is the Lord Jesus Christ. In his hand, we need not fear because he is responsible for removing any obstacle that stands in our way and will allow us free rein to the presence of the Almighty. Take care, therefore, to be accompanied by the only person who can give assurance to successfully complete our journey regardless of the path we have to go through. Look to Christ and take his hand. To God alone be the glory!

Integrity saves

The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit.
Proverbs 28:18

Integrity is one of the most important things to preserve a good relationship with God. Of it depends that our daily walk brings us closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. However, in this postmodern world in which we live, as everything is relative, integrity is not paid much attention and people act according to the circumstances and depending on what their emotions dictate. In many cases this is the reason why some children of God have failed to overcome spiritual infancy. This people never take God seriously and live as if life were only rights and no duties, ie like spoiled little children. When they stumble and fall into a pit from which they can not escape on their own, they break into tears and cry out to the heavenly Father to pull them out of the trap without realizing that it was their own actions and decisions that led them to this sorry state in the first place.

People who act with integrity and transparency walk along a path illuminated by the presence of the Lord Jesus, which lets them avoid all the obstacles that normally stand in their daily travel. The word of God is a lamp unto their feet to help them see clearly where to place their steps to avoid falling. He who does not produce garbage is cleaner than he who cleans a lot. The less problems we get ourselves into the less pressured by the enemy and the world our life will be. Always act with integrity and things will go better. To God alone be the glory!

Anti-values

Do not envy the violent
or choose any of their ways.
For the LORD detests the perverse
but takes the upright into his confidence.
Proverbs 3:31-32

One of the things that the world has been very successful at is the glorification of the anti-values. It is not surprising to see how humanity in general is rampant in a suicidal career to accumulate goods and money as if it were the demonstration of having achieved success in their lives. Slowly but surely, the world moves from an ambiguous postmodernism to a rather clear inversionism where everything good is replaced by what until now had been considered unworthy. Where postmodernism tried to expand the possibilities to reach God in various ways (something impossible to do by any way by the way) inversionism intends to establish atheism as the truth. The arts, especially music, have taken paths of chaos and bad taste that our young people absorb as the most sublime. Peace is replaced with violence manifested in the rise of drug trafficking, wars and killings. I often wonder if the increase in drug trafficking that is observed in some Latin American countries is not a component of the vaunted asymmetric warfare whose aim would be to saturate the market with abundant supply of drugs to destroy the society of the United States from the inside.

Look around you. The current culture is materialistic, selfish, epicurean, focused on the immediate, always in search for the grotesque and confrontational. Those who think that in this manner they are going to achieve peace, security and progress are totally wrong. Let us not be drawn into the world and its empty promises. There is no greater treasure than to count on the good will of God. The trials and persecutions will allow us to refine our character so all we need is to have an ever stronger relationship with the Lord Jesus. With our spirit transformed and aligned with the Spirit of God we can advance through any trial or difficulty. To God alone be the glory!

Integrity

Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than the rich whose ways are perverse.
Proverbs 28:6

Humanity in general has committed the grave error of equating personal success with the ability to accumulate wealth. The rich are always viewed with admiration and they have become idols and models whose conduct many want to imitate. No one is concerned if the rich happens to be dishonest or lacks values and principles, all that matters is how much money he has been able to accumulate and how one could achieve the same “success” that he has achieved. The problem is not the money or the amount of it that one may have. The problem is that we let ourselves be trapped by the glitter of gold and the illusion of the many things that we could get if we had large amounts of it. The problem comes when our lives are captivated and dominated by the love of money and we lose all scruple and all sense of decency in order to seek and accumulate enough treasure for us to live “the good life.”

The apostle Paul said it very clearly: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” [1]

Let us be aware lest we fall into the subtle trap that the world puts us in our path to have us caught in its nets. As children of God we must trust in God’s providence and the love he has clearly demonstrated to us all. We will never lack anything because God will always supply us with abundance. Let us not focus on money but on the goodness of God and his infinite love. Seek his face and he will honor our attitude of respect and obedience to him with rich blessings. To God alone be the glory!
